Larimar Crystal Meaning + Healing Properties

What is it? Larimar is a rare blue stone from the Dominican Republic, which was formed by active volcanos. Although Dominican Republic locals were familiar with this stone, it was “discovered,” mined and named for marketing purposes in 1974 by Father Miguel Domingo Fuertes Loren, and Norman Rilling, a member of the U.S. Peace Corps. Mendez named the stone after his daughter, Larissa, when combining her name with the Spanish word for the sea, “mar.” Larimar is also known as the “Atlantis Stone,” because it serves as a reminder of the ancient civilization of Atlantis. This crystal has been used as not only a good luck talisman, but as a powerful emotional and spiritual healer.
How to identify larimar: Larimar is primarily made up of pectolite, which is a sodium calcium silicate, and contains traces of copper which give it that beautiful blue color. Larimar can be found in colors that range from light blue, and blue-green mixed with white streeks or marbling, which resembles beams of light dancing on the bottom of a pool or clear ocean floor.
Uses for larimar: If you’ve been feeling like you’re having difficulty with all areas of expression, such as communication, being in touch with your emotions, and the ability to “go with the flow” in life.
Spiritual & metaphysical uses for larimar: Since larimar possesses both water and fire energies, this crystal is especially good for balancing energies it makes a great stone for meditation, cooling off tempers, and washing away fear, anxiety, and unresolved trauma from past or present life relationships. As an excellent stone to assist with facilitating energies of peace and relaxation, Larimar has been used to help stress-related illness, high blood pressure, inflammation, and illnesses of the throat such as the flu and sore throat.
Emotional healing with larimar: Larimar is known to work especially well to give courage, inner strength, balance, and assist you when getting in touch with your emotions with the ability to speak from your heart. Working with Larimar has been known to provide deep emotional releases, including releasing what no longer serves you such as self-sabotage and negative thought patterns. Larimar is said to clear and heal stress, anger, fear, and panic attacks with its cooling and soothing energy.
Fun Fact: Larimar has been known to combine well with other blue crystals, such as aquamarine, turquoise, and chrysocolla, in addition to Lemurian crystals.
