Labradorite

What is it? Although it is believed Labradorite was first discovered in Maine over a thousand years ago, it was re-discovered in 1770 in Labrador, Canada. Labradorite is a favorited stone among psychics and shamans for its ability to not only help strengthen intuition but provide energetic protection for the aura and chakras. Labradorite has several nicknames, including the “stone of transformation,” the “stone of magic” and the “philosopher’s stone.”

How to identify it: Labradorite is most identifiable by it beautiful varying mix of colors from blue-green, to purple, yellow and orange. This crystal is formed by alternating mix of layers of two feldspars that have different chemical compositions called sodium aluminum silicate and calcium aluminum silicate. When light touches upon the crystal, it creates flashes of light that projects multiple colors at the same time, known as labradorescence- not to be confused with fluorescence, which causes crystals to glow under ultra violet light.

Uses: When light shines upon Labradorite, it flashes beautiful, seemingly multi-dimensional colors. With that said, Labradorite has been used to reflect our inner light, and serve as a mirror to reflect and bring awareness to the duality and parts of ourselves that are hidden in the unconscious.

Working with labradorite can especially be helpful for those who are empathic, psychic, and those who work in the line of energy healing to provide energetic protection from becoming too drained.
