About Distance Healing:

I’m going to be real with you.  Before I embarked down a spiritual journey of self-healing and transforming into who I am now, if you were to talk to me about chakras, healing benefits of crystals, and anything else coined “spiritual,” I probably would have laughed and thought you were crazy if some sort of rock would have any sort of healing properties.  Fast forward six years later and I’m a Reiki Master Teacher (RMT) of various Reiki techniques, in addition to other holistic healing modalities, who’s had the pleasure of providing a plethora of profound healings for people all over the world!  It is with great joy that I share with you the full break down as to HOW the phenomenon of distance healing works, and WHY it is just as effective as an in-person visit.

One of the most exciting things about living in this time are the leaps in discoveries that have been made in modern science, especially when it comes to validating what ancient healers have known all along.  There was a brilliant man who walked on this Earth…first name Albert, last name Einstein.  Maybe you’ve heard of him?!  Einstein is largely responsible for modernizing physics and quantum mechanics with his theories of relativity and the like.  From equations in quantum mechanics, Einstein said two particles, even if they are separated in opposite directions will remain entangled and connected.  In his findings, when one electron is influenced, the other is also influenced.  There is an instantaneous communication between particles (faster than the speed of light), even at great distance… “spooky actions at a distance,” in fact, is what Einstein said.

On a further note, distance is equal to space in quantum physics. They are bound together by laws of physics, and since time is not fixed, nor is it linear or flowing in one direction, it has a fluidity.  Now THAT is spooky, but it is one of the reasons why scientists are finding out how distance healing is possible because quantum entangled particles are “unmitigated,” which means ‘distance’ does not and cannot diminish the strength of the entanglement.4

It is a fact that all living things emit light and energy that resonates at a certain frequency.  Every thought we have fires off frequency signals in our brains that can actually be measured.  Taking it a step further, we know that all energy is part of a larger whole.  In other words-we are connected to ALL life as ONE underlying interconnected field.  For example, have you ever thought of a friend and that person sends you a text? Or happen to be thinking about someone and randomly run into them at the store?  This is how parents have the intuition of their children being in danger.  Our thoughts and energy are all connected together in this net.  Some may call it the Matrix.  Others call it the ether or quantum-field.  This applies to distance healing because when the practitioner sets the intention to facilitate healing, uses Reiki energy, and symbols, it’s what links the healer to the particles in the recipient’s field, influencing them to change.

In the 2019 March-April issue of the Medical Science Journal, “The Effect of Reiki energy therapy on severity of pain and quality of life in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: a randomized clinical trial,” had randomly assigned RA patients into groups that received questionnaires following Reiki therapy four times a week for 20 minutes each time.  After four times of energy therapy, the questionnaires were completed within two days. The study showed that remote/distance Reiki therapy was a complementary and alternative, noninvasive healing modality for relieving pain and improving quality of life in patients with RA.3

Whether Reiki is conducted in person or through distance healing, studies show both treatments are equally effective.  A study in 2004 published, “Long term effects of energetic healing on symptoms of psychological depression and self-perceived stress. Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine,” researched forty-six participants were randomly assigned to one of three groups: hands-on Reiki, distance Reiki, or distance Reiki placebo, and remained blind to treatment condition.  Each participant received an hour to an hour and a half treatment once a week for six weeks.  The results of the study showed a significant reduction of depression and stress, with the benefit lasting one year following the treatment.  In the placebo group, patients were told they would receive distance Reiki, (when they actually did not), and reported no significant change in their depression or stress. The measurements from this study were the Beck Depression Inventory, The Beck Hopelessness Scale, and Perceived Stress Scale.4

Distance healing has been the subject of many studies going back to the 1960s.  A study conducted by Robert Beck, an award-winning scientist of nuclear medicine,  tested the frequency that ranges in healers’ brains, which is in alignment with the frequency of the Earth’s magnetic field. “The Earth resonates at an average frequency of 7.8Hz, while the dominant brainwave frequency of sensitives, such as shamans and healers, comes close to 7.83Hz and may, at times, beat in phase with the Earth’s signal, thereby causing harmonic resonance…They appear to be tapping into universal frequency that is implicated in healing, and is effective regardless of the belief structure of the healer.”2

In recent years, Reiki has become more popular in the United States, with Reiki treatment options now being offered in over 800 hospitals, special programs being implemented in colleges such as UCLA, Yale, and Columbia.  A known advocate for Reiki is Dr. Oz, who uses Reiki healers during and after open-heart surgeries.  He says, “Reiki has become a sought-after healing art among patients and mainstream medical professionals.”

What’s Involved in a Distance Healing?

Reiki practitioners who are going for their second level of training receive a series of healing symbols for the first time.  One of the styles I practice and teach is traditional Japanese Usui Reiki.  One of the symbols passed down to my students  is called Hon-Sha-Ze-Sho-Nen, (HSZSN), aka the “distance symbol.”  From Japanese, this word is translated to mean “no past, no present, no future.”  When this symbol is invoked by a practitioner, it allows access to the healing energy that transcends time and space.  This is the same symbol I use to give distance attunements, help my clients that are struggling with past life trauma, clear their homes and businesses of Earthbound energies, and so on.

I would consider there to be two types of distance Reiki. One, through the use of the “distance symbol” where the recipient is not physically present.  Two, when the recipient is physically present but prefers not to be touched on the chakra areas for personal preference, or because he/she is experiencing pain, therefore hovering my hands over the chakra areas instead.

If I am conducting a distance healing where the client is not physically present, I walk him/her through the session on the phone, FaceTime, Skype, email, or another messaging service, just as I would an in-person session.  I start by using the Reiki symbols and let the energy flow from my hands with my eyes closed and visualize the recipient as if he/she is in front of me.  I proceed to use any additional symbols required for healing, open up the recipient’s aura, followed by the chakras; paying attention to any intuitive guidance that comes to my awareness.  When the session has ended, I close the chakras and aura, followed by any symbols.

Clients during a distance healing can experience the same sensations as they would an in-person visit.  For instance, he/she may feel coolness or heat, tingling, see vivid dreaming and colors, and experience deep relaxation.  Many clients have told me they were aware of multiple hands or, “oohh something touched my knee,” and sure enough, that was the area I was channeling Reiki to at the time.

The human tendency is “I must see it to believe it.”  If you have been apprehensive or even curious to try Reiki, I encourage you to experience it for yourself, and I can guarantee you will discover how remarkable it really is.
