Amethyst Meaning + Healing Properties
Amethyst is a crystal that is part of the quartz family, and is one of several “Master Healing Stones,” and appropriately coined this name because it’s a stone that can ‘do it all.' The word itself is derived from the Greek word amethystos meaning “not drunk” or “not intoxicated,” and known as a sobriety stone to break away from addictions and habits that do not serve your highest good. The Greeks believed if they wore a piece of amethyst jewelry while drinking wine or drank from a cup decorated with the crystal, it would prevent overindulgence and make them less intoxicated. What do you say we put this theory to the test?! Ha…just kidding….but not really…..
As a master healing stone, its benefits include the ability to clear ALL the chakras, but is especially beneficial for the “Crown” chakra and opening the “Third Eye” chakra, aka your 6th sense/psychic center, in addition to organs and parts of the body associated with those chakras: brain function & neural signals through the brain, increased focus, intelligence, and memory, stimulate the pineal gland, relieves symptoms of headaches, migraines, insomnia, wards off nightmares, negative thoughts, healing to those who battle with anger and behavioral disorders such as addictions, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), hyperactivity (ADHD)- especially in children. Amethyst brings forth courage and strength to those who work with the stone, especially when grieving, worry, in state of shock, or when life seems to be overwhelming
There are several colors and types of amethyst, such as chevron amethyst and ametrine, but for this article, we will be focusing on amethyst quartz, which is most commonly found in colors ranging from light to deep purple, but can be a red-violet due to the amounts of iron, or even alternating white and purple layers of chevron lines, hence the name chevron amethyst. Although chevron amethyst is amethyst, it has its own special healing properties that we will discuss another day.
Amethyst is known as a stone for success and good luck. It deepens your spiritual connection with Divine source and opens your mind to endless creativity with Universal Life Force energy flowing through you, raising your vibration, therefore being especially helpful for people seeking careers in the Arts. Additionally, amethyst is a crystal that every healer should own, being able to heal the healer. The vibration of amethyst clears energetic blockages that allow six sensory gifts to be revealed especially with prophetic dreaming through symbols, metaphors, connecting you to the energy of Archangels and your spirit guides, giving you the ability to perceive truth from Divine perspective. Darker shades of amethyst act as a protective shield from psychic attacks, and deflects interference from lower vibrational energies/entities. It is said this stone is particularly useful to repair auric tears and release energies of the emotional, mental, and spiritual auric layers, which repair of such auric layers greatly reduce such interference from lower vibrational energies being able to get into your aura in the first place.
You may choose to carry this crystal as a raw stone it in your pocket, wallet, place it under your pillow at night, or wear it as jewelry. Fun fact: Amethyst can be used to clear AND charge other crystals, and buying a fairly flat piece of the stone can serve as a charging plate!
